An Ever Present Help

Help Me

We woke up to a beautiful fall morning with crispness in the air. The morning routine had begun. I let Elsie out back and found my favorite coffee cup filled it with my favorite Green Mountain roast then headed for the back door to retrieve Elsie. She came bounding in and her and I settled in the living room to enjoy the morning. She had found her beloved ball and was playing happily with it but before long she found herself in quite the predicament as her bright green much loved friend rolled under the sofa. What to do? What to do? I watched as she did all that she could to retrieve her best bud. After much agonizing over her situation she realized the impossibility of her task. She finally came to the one that she knew would help her. She put her two paws on the sofa where I was sitting and looked at me as if to say “Help me”.  I looked at her in her need and I thought how many times have I done that? How many times have I through my own unwise choices and mistakes in the daily living of life have I gotten myself into one predicament or another and rather than running immediately to the one who can and will help me I do everything I know to do trying to make it better only to find myself in a worse situation then when I started.

I am finding as the years go by that if I run immediately to the one I know will help me things are remedied much more quickly. Psalm 46:1 says God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in times of trouble. Obviously the ultimate objective for Elsie would be not to roll her ball under the sofa to begin with lol, and for me not to find myself in predicaments due to my own sin and unwise choices. Alas this walk with God is a journey, two steps forward one back but always moving forward with Him.

Thank you Father for teaching me in such ordinary moments. Help us all to run to You in our times of trouble or need for we know that You are a good God and it pleases You to help Your children grow. ;)

Life is Good Again

Beth, Great post! funny how timely, your words are and how appropo they are to my situation. This has been my first week on my new job and the Lord is teaching me about stress, or should I say, how not to let the tension overcome me. This is what I have concluded this week when I realize that I am becoming tense, at the point of realization, the best action is to turn to Him. My help in times of trouble. Needless to say how great my week was when I choose to turn to him before I’m exhausted. I Love you Girl! Give Elsie a scratch and hug for me!

Morning Beth, I have the same situation with our dog Jack, His ball rolls under the sofa and either Paul or I have to get down and retrieve it for him. He also gives us the sad look and will whimper. We have a yard stick we use to roll it out. I guess God has His yard stick to help us when we get into situations. Thanks you Lord. Love Brenda
