Where Are You Drinking?

Today it was such a beautiful morning that before I knew it I found myself outside sitting by the pool for some quiet time with God. As I sat there listening to all the morning chatter of the birds, I watched as they all visited the feeders for breakfast. I noticed many sparrows congregating at the pools edge looking longingly into that vast amount of water. I could just see their little minds turning thinking, I’m thirsty. How do I get that water without harming myself? They tried and tried but to no avail. As I sat there all that time watching them in their desperation for that water I was thinking just turn around. There is a wonderful newly filled bowl of clean fresh pure water just behind you that I have provided just for you. You don’t have to risk your life for the chemical laden water that looks so inviting but could possibly lead to your death. As I continued to watch I saw that occasionally one brave sparrow would find the clean refreshing bowl of water and I thought look, see the sparrow drinking from the good water? I thought surely they would watch and learn and follow their fellow sparrow to the clean fresh pure water but alas they did not. I saw that they needed to discover the pure water on their own. Some did and some didn’t but I was hoping all along that they all would.

I’m sure you’ve figured out the moral of this story. God provides all we need in Jesus who Himself said “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” John 7:37-38 but the people pay no attention to the pure water that can truly fill and refresh their souls but rather try so desperately to quench their thirst in the pool of the world which is vast and looks so beautiful and inviting. They don’t realize that once immersed fully in that pool it can be quite deadly to the soul and all the while the Father is saying to them “I’ve provided it all for you through my Son. Find Him.”

Even my reading of the word this morning seemed to go along with what I was witnessing. John 6:27 Jesus speaking “Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal upon Him.” Verse 29 “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

Thank you Father for teaching me. It so helps me to grow.

Good Morning Beth, thanks for the reminder, that Jesus if where we go when we are thirsty or need encouragement. He is so good to us and He alone can fill that void or thirst. Have a wonderful day. In Christ Brenda
