The Heart of a Child

Many of you know my mom went to be with the Lord last week. We had her funeral yesterday and afterward we gathered at a local restaurant for lunch and to reminisce. My very sweet three year old niece Rylee was there. She is a very special little girl and just seems to have a way of grabing the heart of everyone she meets. During the course of the luncheon she came to our table to sit on my lap and visit with Tim and I and our children and their spouses.  I was conversing with her asking her all kinds of questions, what did you have for lunch etc. and she would ramble off the menu. Then we got to her pretty earrings. She had recently gotten her ears pierced so she showed them off and looked to see if all of us ladies at the table had earrings on. She noticed that I was not wearing earrings. I told her I did not have any earrings and she thought for only a second and said so grown up like “Well maybe I will get you some for Christmas. Do you like blue?” Everyone’s mouths at the table dropped and I said “yes Rylee blue is very nice, that would be lovely.”  They were just amazed that at 3 years old she was already thinking of others. No thought or concern from her about how she would accomplish this, just that of course she would. She did that same thing when she spent the night with us a couple of months ago. She and I went to the Museum of Play and as we were leaving we visited the gift shop because I wanted to get her something to remember her experience there. She decided on a very cute flower necklace and then declared that she needed one for mommy as well so we bought two. Lol That is an unusual heart for a child that small. Moments like that are like windows into the heart of the Father. Those encounters with her remind me to remain childlike in my giving and my faith and always to keep my heart open. For it is by childlike faith that we enter into the Kingdom.

Father, help us to always remain childlike in our faith, trusting you for all that we need.

Thanks Brenda. I appreciate all your prayers. I certainly could feel them all during the past week. I will miss her but I know she is in a better place so that makes it a little easier.

I agree. Rylee is a sweet little girl. I like her “tell all” honesty.

Beth, Just the picture you posted captures your heart! I’m so glad that you can see the pure sweet love in her heart. Many people miss that in the children they have in their lives. What a gift! May you continue to enjoy and be in awe and see that not only in the children but in all people that God places in your path! Thank you for sharing this special young girl with us! God bless you and your beautiful family.
