Answered Prayer

In light of events of the last few days at our church, we have come together as a community in an amazing way. When you receive a call for immediate prayer like that and you know you have to be heard by God, the need is so great and you don’t have time to wonder is everything ok between me and God before I pray. I just have to know that my prayer is heard by God now. It is that important.

Later I reflected on my walk with the Lord and asked Father, is there anything in my life that is keeping you from hearing me when I pray? What are some of the obstacles that cause our prayers to hit the ceiling and fall down unheard by the ears of God and therefore unanswered? The number one cause that came to my mind was unforgiveness. Mark 11:25 And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses. I know that is hard. I have lived it enough in my own life. I know the but God you just don’t understand what they did to me. Yes He does. He knows the hurt and rejection and bitterness and anger. He lived it all as well although He never gave way to that. For me it only comes down to one question. Do I want my prayers heard and answered or not? The answer is yes I do, especially when I am interceding for others. So I allow God through the power of the Holy Spirit to do the forgiving through me because I know I can’t do it myself. The word says in Romans 12:18 If possible, and to the extent that it depends on you, live in peace with all people. So I do my best to maintain my horizontal relationships so that nothing will hinder my vertical one. It’s that important.

Thank you Lord for teaching me. I so need it every day. What a good and loving God we serve.
